Our Farm Story
The idea of Little Suzy’s Farm started during the COVID-19 pandemic. We were struggling to find the food we needed for our large family in stores and we were out growing our suburban house. So, in the middle of a very hot and complicated summer, we moved from the Austin suburbs to our lovely ten acres outside of Salado, Texas.
We began by building a raised-bed garden and grew cucumbers, green beans, a variety of peppers, tomatoes, potatoes, watermelon, and much more. We loved our garden and all it was producing for us. We only had one problem - the garden only produced, well, produce.
In March of 2022, we got our first round of chickens. The goal was to pick up eight chickens we would raise solely for eggs. We ended up coming home with thirteen adorable chicks we fell in love with and we named them all. This began our chicken obsession. We now have around a hundred chickens in over two dozen different breeds for egg production alone.
Shortly after we started raising chickens, we introduced Josie and Cocoa, our two dairy cows, to the farm. We then decided we needed a couple of goats to help clear brush on the farm so we could put up more fencing for the cows. I thought if we have goats to mow brush, we might as well get dairy goats so I could make goats milk soap. We got Promise and Jillian in the spring of 2023 then found out their milk was so good we couldn't get enough and bought Lucy in the fall of the same year. Promise and Jillian each had three kids this year (2024) and we also got Hoot as a companion for Lucy.
Today, we have a total of over a hundred chickens, two cows, and ten goats. Little Suzy's Farm produces eggs, chicken meat, raw cow's and goat's milk, vanilla, and a variety of canned goods. We are so excited to share God's blessings with you!
